EXAM STUDENTS - You should now have completed your work for A01 (Artist copies, research and written analysis) as well as A02 (experiments with a range of media from both primary and secondary sources). Over the next two weeks spend your time working on A03 (observational drawings, taking your own photographs and mind mapping your ideas further).

‘Congratulations to our DBS students Kira Melnikova, Rachel Hardy, Adam Kerr and Maria Sobh who had their art work selected for the Drawdeck exhibition at SIKKA Art Fair 2013. The event is taking place at Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (formely known as the Bastakiya), Bur Dubai near the Ruler’s Court and the British Embassy. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Majed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, SIKKA 2013 features an entirely commissioned programme of visual art projects from UAE-based artists, and this third edition is growing further afield to present fresh creations in film, music and the performing arts. Special events include outdoor film screenings, live music and entertainment, cultural walks, artist-led talks, workshops and educational activities, plus an open-studios exhibition from the Artists-in-Residence (A.i.R) Dubai. SIKKA offers a unique moment in Dubai’s cultural calendar, introducing an alternative element to Art Week’s flow of artistic thought and endeavour. Homegrown, offbeat, intimate, mellifluous, non-exclusive and open to all. The event runs until March 24th and more info can be found at http://www.sikka.ae’

A few notices....

DRAWDECK - paper submissions should be handed in today...online submissions should all be of your own work. Please do not upload artist copies, keep those for your sketchbook development work only. Any uploads should be from primary sources and your own work. Think of it as an online gallery - you wouldn't exhibit sketches of someone else's work in a gallery.

PORTFOLIO CLUB - the next Wednesday session will focus on LARGE scale life drawing. All are expected to attend.

EXAM PREPARATION - you should have completed your artist research, analysis and studies by now...start experimenting with a range of media whilst working from primary & secondary sources....you may choose to work in a colour scheme / style / medium of one of your chosen artists. Ensure that strong links are evident to the theme.
